Amara McPherson
Amara McPherson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate who works with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan, with a special passion for working with children, teens, and families. She understands that our relationships and experiences shape the way we see ourselves and interact with the people around us, and she enjoys helping clients build greater understanding, confidence, and connection.
When working with children, Amara incorporates play therapy techniques to give them a developmentally appropriate way to express emotions, process experiences, and develop healthy coping skills. She especially enjoys working with teenagers as they navigate the challenges of adolescence, identity, relationships, and growing independence. Amara also works closely with parents and families to strengthen communication, increase understanding, and build healthier parent-child relationships.
Amara has experience supporting clients experiencing depression, trauma, grief and loss, self-esteem concerns, behavioral challenges, family conflict, and significant life transitions. Her approach is person-centered and holistic, incorporating attachment-based interventions, mindfulness, expressive arts, play therapy, and other evidence-based techniques based on each client’s individual needs.
At the heart of Amara’s work is her belief that healing happens within safe, authentic relationships. Her therapeutic style is grounded in the Satir Model and emphasizes authenticity, empathy, and compassion. She strives to create a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves while also developing the insight and practical tools they need to move toward meaningful change.
Ultimately, Amara hopes clients leave therapy with a better understanding of themselves, stronger relationships, and the confidence and skills to live more authentically.
